InBody Body Composition Analysis

A bioimpedance scale is a sophisticated device that uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to measure body composition, including fat mass, fat-free mass, and visceral fat. It works by sending safe, low-level electrical currents through the water in your body and measuring the resistance. Journey Health uses an InBody580 scale, a highly accurate, validated device suitable for adults and children ages 3 and up.

Individuals with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other medical implants that rely on electric signals should NOT use this device.

Every 3 months is generally recommended, depending on individual progress and emotional wellness.

Yes! Alternative methods such as waist circumference and traditional scales can be used.

To ensure accurate results:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Stand upright for 5 minutes before testing.
  • Use the restroom before testing.
  • Remove metal objects and heavy clothing.
  • Test at a consistent time of day.
  • Eating or exercising 3 hours before the test.
  • Consuming alcohol or excess caffeine 24 hours before testing.
  • Using a sauna or shower 1 hour before testing.
  • Applying lotion or ointments to hands or feet.
  • Those actively menstruating.
  • Individuals with a fever or illness.
  • Pregnant individuals.

Weight Management (Women, Men, Boys & Girls 12+ Years Old)

No. If medication is deemed beneficial, it can be started without prior weight loss. Obesity is a chronic condition, and medication can help make lifestyle changes sustainable.

Yes! Medication is just one tool. Lifestyle management, including nutrition, physical activity, and behavior changes, is a primary focus.

Yes! Obesity is a chronic disease that requires long-term management, and patients who have had bariatric surgery can benefit from additional support.

There are alternative options, such as using FDA-approved medications for different conditions, generic medications, off-label prescriptions, and direct-to-consumer pharmacies.

No. Journey Health follows the recommendations of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) and does not prescribe compounded anti-obesity medications due to safety concerns.

Midlife Health & Hormones (Women)

No. “Hormone balancing” is a marketing term, not a medical one. Journey Health provides evidence-based treatments for hormone-related conditions.

Only in specific cases, such as for patients with allergies requiring customization. Journey Health does not recommend “bioidentical” compounded hormone therapy due to safety concerns.

Compounded Medications

Compounded medications are customized drugs altered for specific patient needs, such as removing allergens or changing the drug’s form. They are not FDA-approved and pose potential risks, including contamination and inaccurate dosages.

No. Generic medications are FDA-approved and identical to brand-name drugs in composition and effectiveness. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and do not undergo the same rigorous testing.

Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

An eating disorder is a diagnosed mental and physical health condition requiring medical intervention, while disordered eating refers to irregular or unhealthy eating habits that may or may not develop into an eating disorder.

It depends. Journey Health screens all patients for eating disorders. Binge eating disorder falls within our scope of practice, but severe cases of anorexia nervosa and other complex disorders may require specialized care.

For more information, visit the National Eating Disorder Association.

Memberships

The Basic tier (quarterly visits) is designed for patients who are already stable and need only minimal monitoring. New patients often require closer supervision during the first 6 months to adjust medications safely, monitor symptoms, and build consistent habits. That’s why all new patients must start with Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Once you’ve completed your first 6 months, you may drop down to Basic if you’re stable.

If you are currently enrolled in one of our condition-based memberships (such as metabolic health or menopause care), you’ll simply finish out your existing membership as planned. Once it is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to choose from our new tiered membership options (Basic, Bronze, Silver, or Gold). This transition allows you to keep all the benefits of your current membership through the end of your term, and then move into the tier that best matches the level of support and frequency of visits you want going forward.

Yes, most patients can use their FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account) to cover Journey Health memberships. Because our services are medical care provided by a licensed clinician, they typically qualify. We recommend checking with your plan administrator to confirm coverage.

No, Journey Health memberships are direct-pay and not billed through insurance. However, you may still use your insurance for labs, imaging, or prescriptions.

Appointments and scheduling

Additional visits can be added a la carte at member pricing of $200 for 45 minutes. Many patients upgrade to Silver or Gold if they need ongoing extra support.

We ask for at least 24–48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Missed visits cannot be refunded, but we’ll do our best to find another time within your membership window. Frequent no-shows or last-minute cancellations may result in additional fees.

Yes. While memberships are designed to encourage steady, consistent follow-up, you do have flexibility in how you use your visits during your 6-month membership. For example, you might use two visits in one month during a challenging season and skip the following month if things are stable. We’ll work with you to balance your visits in a way that supports your health journey, but all visits must be used within your active membership window.

No. Memberships are designed to encourage consistent follow-up and accountability. Visits are scheduled within your 6-month membership window and do not carry over.

All appointments are now standardized at 45 minutes to provide ample time for individualized care, discussion, and planning.

No. Journey Health offers in-person and virtual visits so you can choose the format that works best for your schedule and needs.

Initial Consultation

Yes. Every patient begins with a full 45-minute initial consultation ($200 flat fee), which includes a complimentary InBody bioimpedance scan. This visit is required before joining a membership, but you are not obligated to enroll right away. Please note: your consultation must be within the past 12 months in order to activate a new membership tier.

We’ll take time to review your health history, goals, and any labs or prior records you bring. The InBody scan helps us understand your body composition, which is important for tracking muscle, fat, and hydration as part of your care. Together, we’ll outline a personalized plan and discuss which membership tier best fits your needs.

Your consultation still provides you with a comprehensive health review and personalized recommendations. However, without a membership you will not have access to ongoing benefits like secure messaging, prescription management, or follow-up visits at Journey Health. You’re always welcome to return and join later, but new patients who rejoin must start with at least the Bronze tier — and your consultation must be within the past year.

We updated our consultation from a 30-minute $150 “mini consult” to a 45-minute $200 full consultation to give you more time, more value, and a stronger start to your care. This ensures we have enough space to listen, review your history, and build a care plan that feels tailored to your health journey.
